1:00pm

Well!! As you can clearly see here I had an ABSOLUTELY stunning morning!! This A.M. has replaced all previous favorite A.M.s!! I even had a playful marmot lead me along th trail to his home and then give me a mini tour of the place! By 1:00pm I had descended down into a thick forest, which had many blowdowns across the trail, slowing down my progress. I did get to see a lot of sweet trees growing right off of rocks!

Tree growing OFF of a giant rock!

I approached a large milky river; a run off of Glacier Peak. There were some cool sandy canyon walls which reminded me of Mt. Hood. The bridge across the river was broken but was still useful for getting across. After this I started to climb way back up along Glacier Peak’s flanks.

Bridge down

Building clouds

As I climbed clouds seemed to come out of nowhere and the weather started turning. I didn’t really mind as the morning was prettier than anything I could’ve ever asked for! I was however surprised since the rain wasn’t forecasted until Monday! It was 3 days early!

Great hucks :)

Glacier Peak and a forming storm

The light shines through

The rain turned constant and I was still climbing. I had a campsite in mind which was up and over a very exposed saddle. On the other side of it I could still see the very tip of Glacier Peak! I passed a super pretty lake named Mica Lake, and about a half mile later descended down to my campsite for the night.

See the top?

A rainbow amidst the bleakness

The biggest roadblock I’ve seen yet!!

These long days are really really tough on me. I’d sort of like to slow it down a bit but I’m really starting to beat this next storm to Mazama. Apparently we’re getting a 1/4 of an inch of rain on Tuesday!! I enjoy the fact that I have this daily blog so I can look back on it and have something to remember this great adventure with. I have to be honest; about half of the time I really don’t want to write it! I’m actually writing this the next day (which you’ll also see was a big one)! Anyway, it’s because of you guys reading that I DO write an entry for every hiking day, and I really appreciate you guys reading along! 2,500 miles I’m almost done!! :)

Thanks for reading!!

Glad you found a playful marmot! My first thought was how zoomed in are you?!? But I guess he was just feeling super social!
