Day 115-117; Three lovely Zeros!

On Friday I slept in SUUUUUPER hard, until 10:30am!!! This is the record sleep-in for the whole trail! Manza walked down Alberta to eat breakfast at Pine State Biscuits. Then when I finally got up and left I met him on Fremont St. at Noho’s Hawaiian Cafe. He brought brand new shoes at a foot store nearby and I got down on some food!

Cravings!! Loco Moco, feels like home!

Then we took Claire’s car to Fred Meyer and did a big resupply for our next four days to Trout Lake. Being in such a huge grocery store was a little overwhelming, but we were happy to get our food for cheap. After this we headed back home and the two of us along with Claire went to Carioca Bowls for more food!

(And ate a lot of blackberries)

We went home for awhile and then Manza and I drove down with Dona (Claire’s mom), to watch Claire perform in Guys and Dolls! The show was so good! Everyone in the cast nailed it and all the dancing and singing was so amazing! Manza and I had a great time! After the show we met up with Claire’s cousins Melissa and Michelle (and her husband Steven). It was quite a late night for us weary hikers and my performing babe

:——-:——-:——-Saturday——-:——-:——-:

On Saturday Claire went to her rehearsals for her next show Pippin, and then had TWO performances of Guys and Dolls! Dona took Manza and I back out to Cascade Locks for PCT Trail Days. Trail Days is a big three day festival down at the waterfront where many hikers show up to hang out. It’s like a big family reunion! There are also vendors and food and other things going on like raffles and giveaways. I didn’t win anything but I saw a TON of people I haven’t seen for a long time!!

Starlite!!

All in all it was very fun seeing all the people I hadn’t seen for hundreds and in some cases thousands of miles! Dona had fun hanging out there for around two hours and then she and I and Star left to go back to Portland, leaving Manza to stay at Trail Days. When I got back home my new shoes had arrived and I could finally get rid of my old set!

Out with the old, in with the new!!

These shoes have been through 1,200 trail miles! Most people only get 500-700 miles out of one pair! I’ve had the insoles and socks since Warmer Springs ~2000miles!! It feels so good to have a fresh set for Washington! Thank you so much for those who contributed!

I took a two hour nap after this and had a relaxing evening. Claire came home super pooped from the day and we slept ASAP!

——-:——-:——-Sunday——-:——-:——-

Sunday morning we headed to the Tin Shed for breakfast with Claire’s cousins and Starlite. We had a really really good breakfast and I saw some of my old coworkers. Then, Dona took Michelle and Melissa back to the airport, Claire went to her rehearsal, and I took Starlite for an extended walk back to the house.

L to R: Melissa, Dona, Claire, Michelle, Steven

When Dona got back from the airport, we headed down to the Deb Fennel Auditorium in Tigard for the final performance of the season of Guys and Dolls. There was so much energy in the show, and it was fun to watch it again for a second time and look at different things this time. Claire crushed it again!

I didn’t take any pictures of the show, but here are some photos posted on Instagram by the Broadway Rose Theater Company:

The Hot Box Girls! Claire is second from right!

After the show Dona went home and Claire and I went out to the lead actress/singers house for a finale party. It was neat to hang out with the cast and see how their real lives differed from their stage characters! What a fun night!!

Tomorrow Claire will take me back to Cascade Locks and I will begin the Washington portion of the PCT. Only 500 miles left, here we gooooo!!

Thanks for reading!!

  1. Great seeing you at Trail Days. Claire looks so cool as a doll. Enjoy Washington and leave some berries for the bears. Wish we could join you but we'll be there in spirit as we read along.
